Original 1967-1970 Nigerian Defence Service Medal – Nigerian Civil War

Original Nigerian Defence Service Medal 1967-1970 from the period of the Nigerian Civil War.
This military decoration was awarded to members of the Nigerian Armed Forces for service during the 1967-1970 conflict, also known as the Biafran War.
The obverse features an eagle, crossed rifles, an anchor and other military symbols surrounded by the inscription ‘Devotion – Armed Forces of Nigeria – Discipline – Courage’.
The reverse depicts a map of Nigeria surrounded by hands with the inscription ‘Nigeria Defence Service Medal 1970-1967’.
The medal retains its accompanying red, white and orange ribbon with metal suspension.
An interesting original African military decoration directly connected with an important conflict in the modern history of Nigeria.
