Original Gurkha V.C.’s ‘Ayo Gurkhali’ linen wall hanging dating from the 1960s, manufactured by the Irish Linen Union and made in Ireland.
This decorative wall hanging pays tribute to the famous Gurkha regiments and the soldiers who were awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain’s highest decoration for gallantry.
The colourful design features several Victoria Cross recipients, including Kulbir Thapa VC, Bhanbhagta Gurung VC, Lachhiman Gurung VC, Tulbahadur Pun VC, Ganju Lama VC, Sherbahadur Thapa VC, Thaman Gurung VC and Rambahadur Limbu VC.
The Victoria Cross is displayed at the centre, surrounded by battlefield scenes, while the iconic crossed kukris appear at the top.
The famous Gurkha motto, ‘It is better to die than to be a coward’, is printed along the bottom.
