Original 1950 Dutch 7 December Division Expeditionary Force Commemorative Medal – 3-2 R.I. Dutch East Indies

Original Dutch bronze commemorative medal from 1950 commemorating the service of the 1st ‘7 December’ Division in the Dutch East Indies.
The medal is specifically connected to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, which formed part of the 3rd Infantry Brigade Group of the 1st ‘7 December’ Division.
The obverse displays the Expeditionary Force emblem with the letters ‘E M’ positioned on either side of an upright sword surrounded by laurel branches.
The letters ‘E M’ stand for ‘Expeditionaire Macht’, or Expeditionary Force, and the design incorporates the sword from the coat of arms of Batavia.
The reverse lists the locations ‘Meester Cornelis’, ‘Tandjongpriok’, ‘Tjirandjang’, ‘Tasikmalaja’ and ‘Garoet’, locations on Java associated with the operations of this military formation.
Around the edge is the inscription ‘3e Bataljon · 2e Reg. Infanterie · 3e Infanterie Brig. Groep · I Div. 7 December’.
The 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Regiment was also designated 3-2 R.I. and served as part of the 7 December Division during its deployment in the Dutch East Indies from 1946 to 1949.
A dedicated battalion diary of 3-2 R.I. documents the unit’s period from 1 September 1946 until 31 December 1949.
The bronze medal measures approximately 50 mm in diameter and was produced as a commemorative piece relating to the Dutch military presence in the Dutch East Indies.
An interesting historical collector’s item directly connected with 3-2 R.I., the Expeditionary Force, the 7 December Division and Dutch military operations on Java.

Originele Nederlandse bronzen gedenkpenning uit 1950 ter herinnering aan de inzet van de 1e Divisie ‘7 December’ in Nederlands-Indië

De penning behoort specifiek tot het 3e Bataljon, 2e Regiment Infanterie, onderdeel van de 3e Infanterie Brigade Groep van de 1e Divisie ‘7 December’.
Op de voorzijde staat het embleem van de Expeditionaire Macht met de letters ‘E M’ aan weerszijden van een rechtopstaand zwaard, omgeven door lauwerbladeren.
De letters ‘E M’ staan voor ‘Expeditionaire Macht’ en het ontwerp is gebaseerd op het divisie-embleem waarin het zwaard uit het stadswapen van Batavia werd verwerkt.
De keerzijde vermeldt centraal de plaatsen ‘Meester Cornelis’, ‘Tandjongpriok’, ‘Tjirandjang’, ‘Tasikmalaja’ en ‘Garoet’, plaatsen op Java die verbonden waren aan de inzet van deze legergroep.
Langs de rand staat ‘3e Bataljon · 2e Reg. Infanterie · 3e Infanterie Brig. Groep · I Div. 7 December’.
Het 3e Bataljon van het 2e Regiment Infanterie wordt eveneens aangeduid als 3-2 R.I. en maakte deel uit van de 7 December Divisie, waarvan de inzet in Nederlands-Indië van 1946 tot 1949 plaatsvond.
Van 3-2 R.I. is een afzonderlijk bataljonsdagboek bekend dat de periode van 1 september 1946 tot en met 31 december 1949 bestrijkt.
De bronzen penning heeft een diameter van circa 50 mm en werd vervaardigd als herinnering aan de Nederlandse militaire inzet in Nederlands-Indië.
Een interessant historisch verzamelobject dat rechtstreeks betrekking heeft op 3-2 R.I., de Expeditionaire Macht, de 7 December Divisie en de Nederlandse militaire aanwezigheid op Java.
