This Dutch framed portrait photograph of Prince Bernhard in uniform is in good condition and bears his original signature.
The signature was written in the period of the war in the Dutch East Indies, also known as the Police Actions, circa 1947 or 1948.

In 1947 and 1948, Prince Bernhard primarily acted as the military figurehead of the Netherlands. As Inspector General of the Armed Forces, he was involved in the reconstruction and modernization of the army and air force, and served as a connecting figure between the military and politics.
His role gained particular significance during the decolonization war in the Dutch East Indies.
After the First Police Action in the summer of 1947, Bernhard traveled to the archipelago in early 1948, where he visited Dutch troops, spoke with commanders, and offered moral support.
His presence not only served to strengthen the morale of the soldiers, but also had a propagandistic function: it demonstrated that the government and the Royal House fully supported the campaign in the Indies.
Beyond his military activities, Bernhard expanded his international network during this period and took on administrative responsibilities, including serving as chairman of TNO. In these years, he became the public face of both military readiness and technological and societal renewal, while also supporting Queen Juliana in her public duties.

Deze Nederlandse ingelijste portretfoto van Prins Bernhard in uniform is in goede conditie en bevat zijn originele handtekening.
Deze werd gezet gedurende de oorlog in Indië, ook wel bekend als de Politionele Acties, circa 1947 of 1948. Afmetingen: 28 x 21 cm.
In de jaren 1947 en 1948 trad prins Bernhard vooral op als militair boegbeeld van Nederland. Als inspecteur-generaal van de krijgsmacht hield hij zich bezig met de wederopbouw en modernisering van leger en luchtmacht, en trad hij op als verbindende figuur tussen militairen en politiek.
Zijn rol kreeg een bijzondere lading door de dekolonisatieoorlog in Nederlands-Indië.
Na de Eerste Politionele Actie in de zomer van 1947 reisde Bernhard in het begin van 1948 zelf naar de archipel, waar hij Nederlandse troepen bezocht, bevelhebbers sprak en morele steun bood.
Zijn aanwezigheid diende niet alleen om het moreel van de militairen te versterken, maar had ook een propagandistische functie: het liet zien dat de regering en het Koninklijk Huis de inzet in Indië volledig ondersteunden.
Naast zijn militaire activiteiten breidde Bernhard in deze periode zijn internationale netwerk uit en nam hij bestuurlijke taken op zich, onder meer als voorzitter van TNO. Daarmee werd hij in deze jaren het gezicht van zowel militaire paraatheid als technologische en maatschappelijke vernieuwing, terwijl hij koningin Juliana ondersteunde in haar publieke taken.
