Original 1945 Dutch KNIL ‘Militaire Willemsorde’ photo Sergeant M.C. Kokkelink

Original Dutch East Indies press photograph dating from October 1945, showing a gathering following the presentation of a prestigious military decoration.
An original press caption is attached to the reverse, stating that Sergeant M.C. Kokkelink of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army received the Military William Order on 8 August 1945 at Columbia, New Guinea, for leading guerrilla operations on New Guinea.
The decoration was presented on behalf of Queen Wilhelmina by Lieutenant General L.H. van Oyen.
Lieutenant Governor-General Dr. H.J. van Mook also attended the ceremony.
The photograph shows the group after the presentation at the officers’ club of Camp Columbia, with Lieutenant General L.H. van Oyen, Sergeant M.C. Kokkelink and Dr. H.J. van Mook pictured from left to right.

Originele Nederlands-Indië persfoto uit oktober 1945 met een bijeenkomst na de uitreiking van de Militaire Willemsorde aan sergeant M.C. Kokkelink

Op de achterzijde is een originele persbeschrijving bevestigd waarin wordt vermeld dat sergeant M.C. Kokkelink van het Nederlands-Indische Leger op 8 augustus 1945 in Columbia, Nieuw-Guinea, de Militaire Willems-Orde ontving voor zijn rol als leider van de guerrillastrijd op Nieuw-Guinea.
De onderscheiding werd namens Koningin Wilhelmina uitgereikt door luitenant-generaal L.H. van Oyen.
Ook luitenant-gouverneur-generaal dr. H.J. van Mook was bij de plechtigheid aanwezig.
De foto toont het gezelschap na de ceremonie in de sociëteit van kamp Columbia, waarbij van links naar rechts luitenant-generaal L.H. van Oyen, sergeant M.C. Kokkelink en dr. H.J. van Mook zijn afgebeeld.
De originele persbeschrijving is gedateerd oktober 1945 en voorzien van persnummer 9108 van Foto-Aneta.
