Original Dutch KNIL sleeve badge dating from circa 1945-1949, featuring the Dutch lion and the motto ‘Je Maintiendrai’.
This type of insignia was worn by Dutch military personnel in the Dutch East Indies during the period following the Second World War.
The metal shield has a distinctive shape with the crowned Dutch lion holding a sword and bundle of arrows in the centre.
Along the lower section is a curved panel displaying the Dutch motto ‘Je Maintiendrai’.
The front is finished with black, orange and white details together with remnants of a gold-coloured finish.
The reverse is fitted with two horizontal attachment pins for wearing the badge on the uniform.
The sleeve badge remains in used condition with clear traces of wear and loss to the original finish, as shown in the photographs.

Origineel Nederlands KNIL mouwschild uit de periode circa 1945-1949, uitgevoerd met de Nederlandse leeuw en het opschrift ‘Je Maintiendrai’
Dit type embleem werd gedragen door Nederlandse militairen in Nederlands-Indië in de periode na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Het metalen schild heeft een opvallende vorm met centraal de gekroonde Nederlandse leeuw met zwaard en pijlenbundel.
Langs de onderzijde bevindt zich een gebogen tekstvlak met het Nederlandse devies ‘Je Maintiendrai’.
De voorzijde is uitgevoerd met zwarte, oranje en witte details en restanten van een goudkleurige afwerking.
Op de achterzijde bevinden zich twee horizontale bevestigingsspelden waarmee het embleem op het uniform kon worden gedragen.
Het mouwschild verkeert in gebruikte staat met duidelijke gebruikssporen en verlies van de oorspronkelijke afwerking, zoals zichtbaar op de foto’s.
Een interessant origineel militair embleem voor een verzameling rond het KNIL, Nederlands-Indië en de Nederlandse militaire geschiedenis van 1945-1949.
