Original 1945-1949 Dutch KNIL ID card – Borneo

Original Dutch KNIL identification card dating from the period 1945-1949.
The document bears the number 45047 K.N.I.L. and lists the holder’s name as ‘Sakram’.
The rank is stated as ‘Jav.Sld.Tkl’ with general register number 98933.
A period photograph of the holder is mounted at the top left, with his signature below it.
The document carries a purple stamp impression reading ‘Commando’ and ‘Borneo’.
At the bottom the document is signed by the local (Mil.) Commander.
The Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) was the force that defended Dutch colonial interests in the Dutch East Indies.
After the Japanese surrender in 1945 the KNIL returned to restore order during the Indonesian struggle for independence, a period that included the Bersiap unrest and the subsequent Dutch military actions known as the ‘politionele acties’.
Borneo, present-day Kalimantan, was one of the islands where Dutch and Allied troops were active in re-establishing authority during these years.

Linksboven is een originele pasfoto van de houder bevestigd, met daaronder zijn handtekening.
Op het document is een paarse stempelafdruk zichtbaar met de aanduiding ‘Commando’ en ‘Borneo’.
Onderaan is het document getekend door de plaatselijke (Mil.) Commandant.
Het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger (KNIL) was het leger dat de Nederlandse koloniale belangen in Nederlands-Indië verdedigde.
Na de Japanse capitulatie in 1945 keerde het KNIL terug om de orde te herstellen tijdens de onafhankelijkheidsstrijd van Indonesië, die bekendstond als de Bersiap-periode en de daaropvolgende politionele acties.
Borneo, het huidige Kalimantan, was tijdens deze jaren een van de eilanden waar Nederlandse en geallieerde troepen actief waren bij het herstellen van het gezag.
