Original 1945-1949 Dutch-Indies ‘Indisch Instructie Bataljon’ insignia

This original embroidered shoulder title belongs to the Indisch Instructie Bataljon (Indies Instruction Battalion), a unit of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) that was active during the Dutch–Indonesian conflict and the so-called “police actions” in the Dutch East Indies (1945–1949).
The badge is made on a green woven backing with black embroidered lettering and clearly reads “INDISCH INSTR. BATALJON.”

The Indisch Instructie Bataljon was responsible for training and instructing military personnel in the turbulent years following the Second World War, when the Netherlands attempted to re-establish colonial authority in the archipelago. Members of this unit wore this type of shoulder title on their uniform to identify their battalion and role within the military organization.

Dit originele, geborduurde schouderembleem behoort tot het Indisch Instructie Bataljon, een eenheid van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger (KNIL) die actief was tijdens de politionele acties in Nederlands-Indië (1945–1949). Het embleem is vervaardigd op een groen geweven ondergrond met zwart geborduurde letters en draagt duidelijk de tekst “INDISCH INSTR. BATALJON”. Het Indisch Instructie Bataljon was belast met het opleiden en trainen van militair personeel in de turbulente jaren na de Tweede Wereldoorlog, toen Nederland probeerde het koloniale gezag in de archipel te herstellen. Leden van deze eenheid droegen dit type titel op het uniform als herkenning van hun bataljon en functie binnen de militaire organisatie.
