Original 1938 German Adolf Hitler Anschluss Referendum Ballot with Official Ballot Envelope

50 €

Original German ballot paper from 1938 for the referendum concerning the incorporation of Austria into the German Reich and the election of the Großdeutscher Reichstag.
The heading reads ‘Volksabstimmung und Großdeutscher Reichstag’, followed by ‘Stimmzettel’.
The ballot directly refers to the ‘Wiedervereinigung Österreichs mit dem Deutschen Reich’ carried out on 13 March 1938, better known as the Anschluss of Austria.
Voters were asked whether they approved the incorporation of Austria into the German Reich and supported the list of Adolf Hitler.
The ballot features separate voting circles marked ‘Ja’ and ‘Nein’, with the ‘Ja’ circle printed considerably larger.
This example was actually completed and has a pencilled cross inside the ‘Ja’ voting circle.
Especially noteworthy is the preservation of its accompanying grey-blue official ballot envelope.
The front of the envelope bears a printed National Socialist eagle and swastika emblem together with the inscription ‘Stimmzettelumschlag’.
Together, the ballot and envelope form a tangible historical document from the Nazi-organised referendum of 10 April 1938, held following the German annexation of Austria.
The combination of the completed ballot paper and official envelope makes this a particularly recognisable historical ensemble.
Both pieces remain in used condition.
An iconic historical object for a collection or museum display concerning the Anschluss, Adolf Hitler, political propaganda and the history of the Third Reich.
