Original 1938 British Air Ministry RAF Drawing Instrument Set by Cooke Troughton & Simms

Original British Air Ministry drawing instrument set dated 1938, housed in its lockable wooden instrument case.
The lid features a brass plaque marked with the British Air Ministry ‘A M’ beneath a crown and the date ‘1938’.
Inside the lid is the maker’s name ‘Cooke, Troughton & Simms’, together with the locations London, York, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The set contains an extensive selection of precision drawing and measuring instruments, including various compasses, dividers, ruling pens and other technical drawing tools.
Beneath the removable instrument tray is a second compartment containing a protractor, ruler, larger compass and additional drawing equipment.
The wooden ruler is visibly marked ‘Made in England’.
Cooke, Troughton & Simms was an important British manufacturer of scientific, optical and precision instruments and also supplied equipment to the British Air Ministry.
The combination of the clear Air Ministry marking, early 1938 date, named manufacturer and extensive contents makes this an interesting piece from the period immediately preceding the Second World War.
The wooden case retains its lock and key and shows traces of actual period use.

Originele Britse Air Ministry tekenset uit 1938, compleet ondergebracht in een afsluitbare houten instrumentenkist

Op het deksel bevindt zich een messing plaat met de Britse Air Ministry-markering ‘A M’ met kroon en het jaartal ‘1938’.
De binnenzijde van het deksel draagt het opschrift ‘Cooke, Troughton & Simms’ met de vestigingen London, York, Cape Town en Johannesburg.
De set bestaat uit een uitgebreide verzameling precisie-instrumenten voor technisch tekenen en meten, waaronder diverse passers, steekpassers, trekpennen en andere tekeninstrumenten.
Onder de uitneembare instrumentenlade bevindt zich een tweede compartiment met onder meer een gradenboog, liniaal, grotere passer en aanvullende tekenbenodigdheden.
Op de houten liniaal is ‘Made in England’ zichtbaar.
Cooke, Troughton & Simms was een belangrijke Britse fabrikant van wetenschappelijke, optische en technische precisie-instrumenten en leverde eveneens materieel aan het Britse Air Ministry.
De combinatie van de duidelijke Air Ministry-markering, het vroege jaartal 1938, de fabrikant en de uitgebreide inhoud maakt dit een interessant object uit de periode direct voorafgaand aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
