Original 1930s ‘Wie is dat?’ book from the personal collection of Max Blokzijl

This example of the biographical reference work “Wie is dat?” was published in September 1931 by Martinus Nijhoff in The Hague and comes from the personal possession of the well-known NSB member Max Blokzijl in Berlin.
The book contains details of approximately 2,500 prominent figures from the Kingdom of the Netherlands (the Netherlands, East and West Indies), including their publications, positions, and addresses.
This particular copy originates from the personal library of Max Blokzijl. On the inside it bears his stamp as correspondent in Berlin for the Algemeen Handelsblad.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Blokzijl was a respected journalist, but after the German occupation he chose the side of the NSB. He became head of the movement’s press department and later one of the most notorious propagandists of National Socialism in the Netherlands, infamous for his radio broadcasts, the so-called “Praatjes van Max Blokzijl” (“Talks of Max Blokzijl”).
After the liberation in 1945 he was arrested, and in 1946 he was convicted of collaboration and treason and executed.

Dit exemplaar van het biografische naslagwerk “Wie is dat?” werd uitgegeven in september 1931 door Martinus Nijhoff te ’s-Gravenhage en is afkomstig uit het persoonlijke bezit van het welbekende NSB lid Max Blokzijl in Berlijn.
Het boek biedt gegevens van circa 2500 bekende personen uit het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden (Nederland, Oost- en West-Indië), met hun publicaties, functies en adressen.
Dit exemplaar is afkomstig uit de persoonlijke bibliotheek van Max Blokzijl.
Op de binnenzijde staat zijn stempel als correspondent in Berlijn voor het Algemeen Handelsblad.
In de jaren ’20 en ’30 was hij een gerespecteerd journalist, maar na de Duitse bezetting koos hij de kant van de NSB.
Blokzijl werd hoofd van de persafdeling van de beweging en later één van de bekendste propagandisten van het nationaalsocialisme in Nederland, berucht om zijn radiotoespraken, de zogenoemde “Praatjes van Max Blokzijl”.
Na de bevrijding in 1945 werd hij gearresteerd en in 1946 wegens collaboratie en landverraad ter dood veroordeeld en geëxecuteerd.
