Original silver pouch belt plate of the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force), dating to the period 1903–1922.
This richly executed regimental insignia features the regimental number “52” centrally within a quoit bearing the title “Sikhs”, surrounded by a laurel wreath with intertwined scrolls displaying the battle honours “Punjab”, “Afghanistan 1878–80”, “Ahmed Khel” and “Kandahar 1880”. The whole is surmounted by a King’s Crown and finished with a lower scroll bearing the title “Frontier Force”. The piece is crafted in silver and carries clear hallmarks on the reverse, along with the maker’s mark of J.R. Gaunt London, a renowned manufacturer of British military insignia.
The origins of the regiment date back to 1846, when it was formed as the 2nd Regiment of Infantry of the Frontier Brigade. In the years that followed, the unit underwent several name changes, including the 2nd (Hill) Regiment of Sikh Infantry, Punjab Irregular Force, and later Punjab Frontier Force. During the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878–1880), the regiment distinguished itself at actions including Ahmed Khel and Kandahar, reflected in the battle honours displayed on this belt plate. In 1903, the unit was officially designated the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force).
The regiment subsequently served in Somaliland (1902), in Mesopotamia during the First World War (1914–1918), and later in Kurdistan. In 1922, it became the 2nd Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment.
During the Second World War, the unit served in the Far East.
Objects relating to the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force) are particularly scarce, due to the regiment’s long and intensive operational history and the limited numbers in which such silver insignia were produced.
This pouch belt plate therefore represents an exceptional and historically important collector’s piece, highly desirable for collectors of British-Indian regiments, Frontier Force memorabilia, and Anglo-Afghan War history.

Dit rijk uitgevoerde regimentsinsigne toont centraal het regimentsnummer “52” binnen een quoit met de titel “Sikhs”, omgeven door een lauwerkrans met ineengestrengelde banderollen dragend de gevechtsonderscheidingen “Punjab”, “Afghanistan 1878–80”, “Ahmed Khel” en “Kandahar 1880”.
Het geheel is bekroond met de King’s Crown en onderaan voorzien van de titelband “Frontier Force”.
Het stuk is vervaardigd uit zilver en draagt op de achterzijde duidelijke keurmerken en de makersmarkering van J.R. Gaunt London, een vooraanstaande producent van Britse militaire insignes.
De oorsprong van het regiment gaat terug tot 1846, toen het werd opgericht als het 2nd Regiment of Infantry of the Frontier Brigade.
