Original 1894 Dutch KNIL helmet plate

Original helmet plate of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL), model 1894.
This helmet plate was worn on the tropical helmets used by soldiers of the KNIL in the Dutch East Indies.
The design consists of a large gilt eight pointed star with a central red cockade field featuring the Dutch national coat of arms.
The shield displays the crowned Dutch lion holding a sword and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The plate was mounted on the front of colonial tropical helmets worn by officers and soldiers serving in the tropical territories of the Dutch East Indies.
This type of helmet plate was introduced with the model 1894 uniform and remained in use for many years within the colonial army.
The reverse shows the original attachment construction and remains of the red cockade with textile backing.

Originele helmplaat van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger (KNIL), model 1894.
Deze helmplaat werd gedragen op de tropenhelmen van militairen van het KNIL in Nederlands-Indië.
Het ontwerp bestaat uit een grote vergulde achtpuntige ster met centraal een rood kokardeveld met het Nederlandse rijkswapen.
Het wapen toont de gekroonde Nederlandse leeuw met zwaard en pijlenbundel, symbool van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.
De helmplaat werd bevestigd op de voorzijde van koloniale tropenhelmen die werden gedragen door officieren en militairen in de tropische gebieden van Nederlands-Indië.
Dit type helmplaat werd ingevoerd met het model 1894 uniform en bleef gedurende langere tijd in gebruik binnen het koloniale leger.
De achterzijde toont de originele bevestigingsconstructie en restanten van de rode kokarde met textiele backing.
