Original WWII USAAF 3rd Air Force patch

This USAAF patch is in worn condition and it is a wartime white back.
These patches were worn by members of the 3rd Air Force who served during World War II.
The Third Air Force initially provided air defense for the southeastern United States (1940-1941) and flew anti-submarine patrols along the coastal areas of the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico after Pearl Harbor.
In January 1942, the command was withdrawn from Eastern Defense Command by Air Force Combat Command and assigned to the operational training of units, crews and replacements for medium bombing, combat and reconnaissance operations.

Deze USAAF 3rd Air Force patch is in gedragen conditie en het betreft een oorlogse white back.
Deze patches werden gedragen door de leden van de 3rd Air Force die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
De Third Air Force verzorgde aanvankelijk de luchtverdediging voor het zuidoosten van de Verenigde Staten (1940-1941) en vloog na Pearl Harbor anti-onderzeebootpatrouilles langs de kustgebieden van de Atlantische Oceaan en de Golf van Mexico. In januari 1942 werd het commando door Air Force Combat Command teruggetrokken uit het Eastern Defense Command en toegewezen aan de operationele training van eenheden, bemanningen en vervangers voor middelzware bombardements-, gevechts- en verkenningsoperaties.
