The Aceh War was a long colonial conflict between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Sultanate of Aceh on Sumatra, lasting intermittently from 1873 into the twentieth century.
The period 1911-1914 covered one of the later phases of the Dutch pacification campaign in Aceh, in which the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) was involved.
Participation in these campaigns was recognised with the War Medal, which carried a clasp naming the theatre of operations and the relevant years.
An interesting collectible for collectors of Dutch East Indies decorations and colonial militaria.
