The KNIL (Royal Netherlands East Indies Army) was the army responsible for maintaining public order and security in the Dutch East Indies until Indonesian independence.
Semarang was an important city on Java during this period with a KNIL garrison and played a role in the post-war unrest between Dutch and Indonesian forces.
After the Japanese capitulation in 1945 the KNIL was rebuilt and deployed during the so-called police actions against the Indonesian independence movement.
An interesting collectible for the collector of KNIL and Dutch East Indies militaria.
