Original WWII Dutch Police Letter Regarding Propaganda Leaflets Nijmegen 1944

Original Dutch police letter from the Second World War concerning the distribution of propaganda leaflets and protective measures against low-level air attacks, dated 26 June 1944 in Nijmegen.
The document originates from the Directorate-General of Police and bears reference number ‘Lb.No.19.1057.16’, together with an additional date stamp of 8 July 1944.
The letter states that several copies of a leaflet were being distributed containing instructions on seeking cover during low-level air attacks.
It specifically refers to attacks involving the strafing of trains, motor vehicles and individual persons.
According to the letter, these instructions originated from a publication in ‘Das Reich’ and were made available by the German authorities.
The Directorate-General requested that the information be distributed among all police personnel and members of the Air Raid Protection Service for instruction of the civilian population.
The document also states that publication in the press was being arranged and that the Dutch railways would participate in its further distribution.
The letter was issued on behalf of the acting Director-General and acting Chief of the General Staff and names Lieutenant-Colonel A. van Batenburg at the bottom.
Recipients included regional police presidents, police presidents, mayors and local Air Raid Protection leaders.
The bottom of the document bears the notation ‘Bijgevoegd 6 strooibiljetten’, indicating that six leaflets originally accompanied the letter, together with an official municipal coat-of-arms stamp.
The top is marked ‘Afschrift’ and ‘Voor Commandant van pl. lbd.’, showing that this copy was circulated within the local Air Raid Protection Service.
An interesting used Dutch wartime document providing a direct insight into police communications, civil air protection and the circulation of information supplied by the German authorities in 1944.

Originele Nederlandse politiebrief uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog betreffende de verspreiding van propaganda-strooibiljetten en maatregelen tegen aanvallen vanuit de lucht, gedateerd 26 juni 1944 te Nijmegen

Het document is afkomstig van het Directoraat-Generaal van Politie en draagt het nummer ‘Lb.No.19.1057.16′, met een aanvullende datumstempel van 8 juli 1944.
In de brief wordt vermeld dat meerdere exemplaren van een strooibiljet worden toegezonden met aanwijzingen voor het zoeken van dekking tijdens aanvallen in scheervlucht.
Daarbij worden specifiek beschietingen van treinen, auto’s en individuele personen genoemd.
Volgens de brief waren deze aanwijzingen afkomstig uit een publicatie in ‘Das Reich’ en door de Duitse autoriteiten ter beschikking gesteld.
Het Directoraat-Generaal verzoekt de aanwijzingen onder het gehele politiepersoneel en het kader van de Luchtbeschermingsdienst te verspreiden voor instructie van de bevolking.
