The Ehrenzeichen der Bundeswehr was instituted in 1980, with the Ehrenkreuz in Gold being one of the higher grades within this series of decorations.
The gold-coloured cross features the German Bundesadler prominently in the centre of the obverse, surrounded by the distinctive cross-shaped design.
The decoration is suspended from its original ribbon in the German national colours of black, red and gold.
The upper section of the ribbon retains the pin construction used for wearing the decoration on the uniform.
The Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr in Gold was awarded for faithful fulfilment of duty and above-average performance within the Bundeswehr.
A visible area is present in the centre of the reverse where part of the finish has been removed.

Het Ehrenzeichen der Bundeswehr werd in 1980 ingesteld en het Ehrenkreuz in Gold vormt een van de hogere uitvoeringen binnen deze reeks onderscheidingen.
Het goudkleurige kruis toont op de voorzijde centraal de Duitse Bundesadler, omgeven door het kenmerkende kruisvormige ontwerp.
De onderscheiding hangt aan het originele lint in de Duitse nationale kleuren zwart, rood en goud.
Aan de bovenzijde is het lint voorzien van de draagspeld waarmee de onderscheiding op het uniform kon worden gedragen.
Het Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr in Gold werd toegekend voor trouwe plichtsvervulling en bovengemiddelde prestaties binnen de Bundeswehr.
