Original 1960s US Army Master Parachutist Badge mounted on an embroidered yellow and black airborne background trimming.
The Master Parachutist Badge is the highest grade of the three traditional US military parachutist badges and is distinguished by the parachute with wings, star and laurel wreath.
The metal insignia is manufactured in silver-coloured metal and is mounted directly through the embroidered oval.
The embroidered background, known in the US Army as an ‘airborne background trimming’ or ‘oval’, was worn behind the parachutist badge on the uniform and indicated affiliation with an airborne unit.
The reverse shows the woven construction of the oval together with the two attachment points of the metal badge.
The complete piece forms an attractive original combination dating from the Cold War and Vietnam War period.

De Master Parachutist Badge is de hoogste graad binnen de drie traditionele Amerikaanse militaire parachutisteninsignes en is herkenbaar aan de parachute met vleugels, ster en lauwerkrans.
Het metalen insigne is uitgevoerd in zilverkleurig metaal en is rechtstreeks door het stoffen ovaal bevestigd.
De geborduurde ovale achtergrond, in het Amerikaanse leger bekend als een ‘airborne background trimming’ of ‘oval’, werd op het uniform gedragen achter het parachutisteninsigne en gaf de verbondenheid met een airborne-eenheid aan.
De achterzijde toont de geweven constructie van het ovaal en de twee bevestigingspunten van het metalen insigne.
Het geheel vormt een fraaie originele combinatie uit de periode van de Koude Oorlog en de Vietnamoorlog.
