Original 1882 Egyptian Khedive’s Star Medal – Egypt Campaign British and Egyptian Forces

Original 1882 Khedive’s Star, a bronze campaign decoration instituted by Khedive Tewfik Pasha of Egypt for military personnel who participated in military operations in Egypt.
The decoration was primarily awarded to British and Egyptian servicemen involved in the Egyptian Campaign of 1882.
This campaign was connected with the British military intervention in Egypt and included the Battle of Tel el-Kebir on 13 September 1882, after which the forces of Ahmed Urabi were defeated.
The obverse of the six-pointed star depicts the Sphinx with the pyramids in the background and bears the inscription ‘EGYPT 1882’, with the corresponding Arabic date below.
Above the star is a crescent and star, an important symbol associated with Egypt at the time.
The reverse features the crowned monogram of Khedive Tewfik Pasha.
The example is complete with its dark blue ribbon.
The Khedive’s Star was worn alongside the British Egypt Medal and represents a distinctive decoration from late 19th-century British and Egyptian military history.

De onderscheiding werd voornamelijk uitgereikt aan Britse en Egyptische militairen die betrokken waren bij de Egyptische veldtocht van 1882.
Deze campagne hield verband met de Britse militaire interventie in Egypte en omvatte onder andere de Slag bij Tel el-Kebir op 13 september 1882, waarna de troepen van Ahmed Urabi werden verslagen.
De voorzijde van de zespuntige ster toont de Sfinx met de piramiden op de achtergrond en het opschrift ‘EGYPT 1882′, met daaronder de overeenkomstige Arabische datering.
Boven de ster bevindt zich een halve maan met ster, een belangrijk symbool binnen het toenmalige Egypte.
De keerzijde is voorzien van het gekroonde monogram van Khedive Tewfik Pasha.
Het exemplaar is voorzien van het bijbehorende donkerblauwe lint.
