Original 1920–1940 Egyptian Order of the Nile Grand Cross Set by Lattes Cairo – Breast Star and Sash Badge

Original Egyptian Order of the Nile set dating from the period 1920–1940 and originating from the era of the Kingdom of Egypt.
The set represents the highest class, the Grand Cross, and consists of the breast star and the sash with its accompanying badge.
The Order of the Nile, known in Arabic as Nishan al-Nil, was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel and developed into one of Egypt’s principal orders of merit.
The order was awarded for distinguished services to both Egyptian and foreign recipients and was divided into several classes.
This Grand Cross represents the highest grade of the order and was worn with the large badge suspended from a broad blue sash with yellow stripes across the shoulder and the breast star worn on the chest.
The richly executed insignia feature multi-pointed rays, white enamel elements and central medallions decorated with Arabic inscriptions in blue enamel.
The reverse of the breast star bears the maker’s mark ‘LATTES’, associated with the well-known Lattes jewellers of Cairo.
This set dates from the period 1920–1940 and is therefore an early example from the era of the Kingdom of Egypt.
The original blue and yellow sash is also present and together with both decorations forms an impressive complete Grand Cross set.

Originele Egyptische set van de Orde van de Nijl uit de periode 1920–1940, afkomstig uit de tijd van het Koninkrijk Egypte

De set betreft de hoogste klasse, het Grootkruis, en bestaat uit de grootheidster en het grootlint met bijbehorend insigne.
De Orde van de Nijl, in het Arabisch Nishan al-Nil, werd in 1915 ingesteld door Sultan Hussein Kamel en groeide uit tot een van de belangrijkste Egyptische onderscheidingen.
De orde werd verleend voor bijzondere verdiensten aan zowel Egyptische als buitenlandse ontvangers en kende verschillende klassen.
Het hier aangeboden Grootkruis vertegenwoordigt de hoogste graad binnen de orde en werd gedragen met het grote insigne aan een breed blauw lint met gele banen over de schouder en de grootheidster op de borst.
De rijk uitgevoerde insignes bestaan uit meerpuntige stralen met wit geëmailleerde elementen en centrale medaillons voorzien van Arabische opschriften in blauw emaille.
Op de achterzijde van de grootheidster bevindt zich de makersmarkering ‘LATTES’, behorend bij de bekende juweliersfirma Lattes in Caïro.
Deze set dateert uit de periode 1920–1940 en is daarmee een vroeg exemplaar uit de tijd van het Koninkrijk Egypte.
Het originele blauw-gele grootlint is eveneens aanwezig en vormt samen met beide onderscheidingen een fraaie complete Grootkruis-set.
Een bijzondere Egyptische ordenset uit het interbellum voor verzamelaars van onderscheidingen, faleristiek en historische objecten uit het Midden-Oosten.
