Original 1937 German Heinrich Hoffmann Photo Book ‘Hitler Abseits vom Alltag’ with dust jacket

Original German photo book ‘Hitler abseits vom Alltag’, published in 1937 by Zeitgeschichte-Verlag und Vertriebs-Gesellschaft in Berlin.
The book was compiled by Heinrich Hoffmann, the photographer who was known within the National Socialist regime as ‘Reichsbildberichterstatter der NSDAP’.
The title page states ‘100 Bilddokumente aus der Umgebung des Führers’ and credits Wilhelm Brückner with the foreword.
This example is marked ‘211. bis 230. Tausend’ and is described inside as an unchanged reissue of the first version published in 1937.
The extensively illustrated book contains 100 black-and-white photographs showing Hitler during public and staged informal moments, including meetings with civilians and children, visits to workers and scenes at the Obersalzberg.
It also contains photographs of the interior of the great hall at the Berghof, architects and construction plans, a model of a German motorway and the signing of photographs.
The publication formed part of the photographic propaganda surrounding Hitler and was intended to present him to the German public away from his everyday political activities.
A notable feature of this example is the surviving original red and black dust jacket displaying the title and Heinrich Hoffmann’s name on the front.
The rear jacket flap advertises several other Heinrich Hoffmann publications and lists ‘Hitler abseits vom Alltag’ with a print run of 210,000 copies.
The dust jacket and book show traces of use and light discoloration as visible in the photographs, but together form an interesting historical document from Nazi Germany.

Origineel Duits fotoboek ‘Hitler abseits vom Alltag’, uitgegeven in 1937 door Zeitgeschichte-Verlag und Vertriebs-Gesellschaft te Berlijn

Het boek werd samengesteld door Heinrich Hoffmann, de fotograaf die binnen het nationaalsocialistische regime bekendstond als ‘Reichsbildberichterstatter der NSDAP’.
De titelpagina vermeldt ‘100 Bilddokumente aus der Umgebung des Führers’ en een voorwoord van Wilhelm Brückner.
Dit exemplaar betreft de ‘211. bis 230. Tausend’ en wordt in het boek aangeduid als een ongewijzigde heruitgave van de eerste versie uit 1937.
Het rijk geïllustreerde boek bevat 100 zwart-witfoto’s die Hitler tonen tijdens publieke en meer geënsceneerde informele momenten, waaronder ontmoetingen met burgers en kinderen, bezoeken aan arbeiders en momenten op de Obersalzberg.
