Original WWII German Cross in Gold 1941 in cloth – Deutsches Kreuz in Gold ‘DKIG’

Original WWII German Cloth German Cross in Gold, known in German as the ‘Deutsches Kreuz in Gold’.
This cloth version was developed to allow the heavy metal German Cross in Gold to be worn more practically on the field uniform.
The example consists of a field-grey star-shaped cloth backing with an embroidered dark starburst and silver-colored highlights.
The center features a white circular field with a black embroidered swastika surrounded by a red border.
Around the central section is the gold-colored metal laurel wreath with the date ‘1941’ at the bottom.
The combination of textile, embroidery and metal laurel wreath gives this version its distinctive three-dimensional construction.
The reverse shows the construction, cloth backing and attachment of the metal components.
The reverse displays clear signs of use and damage to the material, as visible in the photographs.
The German Cross in Gold was instituted during the Second World War as a high German military decoration for repeated acts of military merit or bravery exceeding the requirements for the Iron Cross 1st Class.

Origineel WWII Duits Kruis in Goud in stof ‘Deutsches Kreuz in Gold’

Deze stoffen uitvoering werd ontwikkeld om het zware metalen Duits Kruis in Goud op het velduniform te kunnen dragen.
Het exemplaar bestaat uit een veldgrijze stoffen ondergrond in stervorm met een geborduurde donkere stralenkrans en zilverkleurige accenten.
Centraal bevindt zich een witte ronde ondergrond met zwart geborduurd hakenkruis, omgeven door een rode rand.
Rond het centrale gedeelte bevindt zich de goudkleurige metalen lauwerkrans met onderaan het jaartal ‘1941’.
De combinatie van textiel, borduurwerk en metalen lauwerkrans geeft deze uitvoering een opvallende driedimensionale opbouw.
Op de achterzijde zijn de constructie, stoffen ondergrond en bevestiging van de metalen onderdelen zichtbaar.
De achterzijde vertoont duidelijke gebruikssporen aan het materiaal, zoals op de foto’s zichtbaar is.
Het Duits Kruis in Goud werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog ingesteld als hoge Duitse militaire onderscheiding voor herhaalde daden van militaire verdienste of moed die boven de eisen voor het IJzeren Kruis 1e Klasse uitstegen.
Een bijzonder origineel exemplaar van de stoffen uitvoering van het ‘Deutsches Kreuz in Gold’ voor een verzameling Duitse onderscheidingen en uniforminsignes uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
