Original Dutch Atjeh Medal 1873-1874 Miniature Atjeh War Netherlands East Indies

Original Dutch miniature Atjeh Medal 1873-1874, awarded in commemoration of the first Dutch expeditions during the Aceh War in the Netherlands East Indies.
The obverse features the right-facing portrait of King William III surrounded by the inscription ‘WILLEM III KONING DER NEDERLANDEN G.H.V.L.’.
The reverse displays the inscription ‘ATJEH 1873 EN 1874’ within a laurel wreath.
The medal is suspended from its corresponding dark ribbed miniature ribbon and represents the reduced-size version worn on formal occasions.
The Atjeh Medal was instituted in 1874 for military personnel who had participated in the expeditions against the Sultanate of Aceh in 1873 and 1874.

Originele Nederlandse miniatuur van de Atjeh-medaille 1873-1874, uitgereikt ter herinnering aan de eerste Nederlandse expedities tijdens de Atjehoorlog in Nederlands-Indië

Op de voorzijde bevindt zich het naar rechts gerichte portret van koning Willem III met rondom het opschrift ‘WILLEM III KONING DER NEDERLANDEN G.H.V.L.’.
De keerzijde toont binnen een lauwerkrans het opschrift ‘ATJEH 1873 EN 1874’.
De medaille hangt aan het bijbehorende donkere geribde miniatuurlint en werd als verkleinde uitvoering bij formele gelegenheden gedragen.
De Atjeh-medaille werd ingesteld in 1874 voor militairen die hadden deelgenomen aan de expedities tegen het sultanaat Atjeh in 1873 en 1874.
Een interessant origineel Nederlands koloniaal onderscheidingsteken voor de verzamelaar van Nederlands-Indië, KNIL, Atjehoorlog en Nederlandse onderscheidingen.
