The Militär-Verdienstkreuz was instituted in 1866 by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a military decoration for meritorious service.
The bronze cross features crossed swords, indicating an award for military merit during wartime.
The central medallion features the crowned Bavarian royal monogram and the inscription ‘MERENTI’ on one side.
The opposite side displays the Bavarian lion together with the date ‘1866’, referring to the year in which the decoration was instituted.

Origineel Beiers Militair Verdienstkruis 3e Klasse met Zwaarden uit het Koninkrijk Beieren

Het Militär-Verdienstkreuz werd in 1866 ingesteld door koning Ludwig II van Beieren als militaire onderscheiding voor verdienstelijke dienst.
Het bronzen kruis is voorzien van gekruiste zwaarden, waarmee een toekenning voor militaire verdiensten in oorlogstijd werd aangeduid.
Op het centrale medaillon bevindt zich aan één zijde de gekroonde Beierse koninklijke monogram en het opschrift ‘MERENTI’.
De andere zijde toont de Beierse leeuw met het jaartal ‘1866’, verwijzend naar het jaar waarin de onderscheiding werd ingesteld.
Het kruis is voorzien van het bijbehorende lichtblauwe en witte Beierse lint.
