Original Dutch Atjeh Medal 1873–1874 Miniature with ATJEH 73-74 Clasp

Original Dutch miniature version of the Atjeh Medal 1873–1874, also known as the Kraton Medal.
The obverse depicts King William III surrounded by the inscription ‘WILLEM III KONING DER NEDERLANDEN G.H.V.L.’.
The reverse features the inscription ‘ATJEH 1873 EN 1874’ surrounded by a laurel wreath.
The Atjeh Medal was instituted in 1874 in commemoration of the Dutch military expeditions to Aceh in 1873 and 1874.
This miniature example is mounted on a dark blue ribbon with a small metal clasp inscribed ‘ATJEH 73-74’.
The old suspension and miniature clasp make this an interesting collectible among Dutch colonial military decorations.

Originele Nederlandse miniatuuruitvoering van de Atjeh-medaille 1873–1874, ook bekend als de Kraton-medaille

De medaille toont op de voorzijde het portret van koning Willem III met het omschrift ‘WILLEM III KONING DER NEDERLANDEN G.H.V.L.’.
Op de keerzijde staat binnen een lauwerkrans het opschrift ‘ATJEH 1873 EN 1874’.
De Atjeh-medaille werd in 1874 ingesteld ter herinnering aan de Nederlandse militaire expedities naar Atjeh in 1873 en 1874.
Dit verkleinde exemplaar is gemonteerd aan een donkerblauw lint met een kleine metalen gesp met het opschrift ‘ATJEH 73-74’.
De oude draagmontage en miniatuurgesp maken dit tot een bijzonder verzamelobject binnen Nederlandse koloniale onderscheidingen.
Een interessante originele miniatuurmedaille voor de verzamelaar van Nederlandse militaire onderscheidingen en Nederlands-Indië.
