Original WWII Australian Tok Pisin Propaganda Leaflet New Guinea Against Japan

Rare original Australian World War II propaganda leaflet used during the campaign against Japan in New Guinea and the Southwest Pacific.
The front features a striking colourful illustration of two stylized figures inspired by traditional Melanesian art, with three smaller figures underneath.
The reverse bears the Australian coat of arms with the kangaroo and emu together with a short propaganda message printed in Tok Pisin.
At the top appears ‘Ol boi harim tok’, essentially calling upon the reader to listen to the message.
The text warns the local population that the Japanese want to deceive them and encourages information to be passed to the Australian authorities.
It also refers to Australian soldiers coming to drive the Japanese away.
Leaflets of this type were distributed by Australian and Allied forces among the local population of New Guinea as part of psychological warfare, information campaigns and efforts to obtain local support and intelligence during the New Guinea Campaign.
The use of Tok Pisin allowed Allied propaganda messages to be communicated directly to a large part of the local population.
The combination of the colourful Melanesian imagery, Australian coat of arms and Tok Pisin text makes this a particularly interesting historical document from the Pacific War.

The example remains in used condition with folds, discolouration and signs of use clearly visible in the photos.

Zeldzaam origineel Australisch propagandastrooibiljet uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog, gebruikt tijdens de strijd tegen Japan in Nieuw-Guinea en de Zuidwest-Pacific

De voorzijde is voorzien van een opvallende kleurrijke afbeelding van twee gestileerde figuren in traditionele Melanesische kunststijl, met daaronder drie kleinere figuren.
Op de achterzijde bevindt zich het Australische wapen met de kangoeroe en emoe, gecombineerd met een korte propagandatekst in Tok Pisin.
Bovenaan staat ‘Ol boi harim tok’, vrij vertaald als een oproep om naar de boodschap te luisteren.
In de tekst wordt de lokale bevolking gewaarschuwd dat Japan hen wil misleiden en wordt gevraagd informatie aan de Australische autoriteiten door te geven.
Daarnaast wordt verwezen naar Australische soldaten die zouden komen om de Japanners snel te verdrijven.
