The original German caption on the reverse reads ‘Der Durchbruch in Ostgalizien’ and ‘Blindgänger aus einem durch deutsche Artillerie in die Luft geflogenen Munitionslager in Kozowa’.
This translates approximately as ‘Unexploded shells from an ammunition depot at Kozowa blown up by German artillery’.
The photograph documents the aftermath of German artillery fire during the fighting in Eastern Galicia on the Eastern Front.

Originele Duitse legerfoto uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog van blindgangers afkomstig uit een vernietigd munitiedepot bij Kozowa in Oost-Galicië

Op de foto staat een militair tussen verschillende grote artilleriegranaten en andere achtergebleven munitie.
Het originele Duitse bijschrift op de achterzijde luidt ‘Der Durchbruch in Ostgalizien’ en ‘Blindgänger aus einem durch deutsche Artillerie in die Luft geflogenen Munitionslager in Kozowa’.
Vrij vertaald betekent dit ‘Blindgangers uit een door Duitse artillerie opgeblazen munitiedepot in Kozowa’.
De opname documenteert de gevolgen van Duitse artilleriebeschietingen tijdens de gevechten in Oost-Galicië aan het Oostfront.
