Original porcelain wall plate of the National People’s Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic originating from Erich Honecker.
The plate features the inscription ‘Nationale Volksarmee Aufklärungstruppenteil Rudolstadt’ together with the East German state emblem, military symbolism and a parachute.
Included is a copy of an accompanying letter from the Office of the State Council of the German Democratic Republic dated 11 November 1989 addressed to Colonel Johan V. van Leeuwen at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in East Berlin.
The letter states that the wall plate is presented as a personal gift on behalf of former Chairman of the State Council Erich Honecker from his office at Marx-Engels-Platz in Berlin.
Erich Honecker served as leader of the German Democratic Republic from 1971 until 1989 and was the country’s leading political figure within the Socialist Unity Party during that period.
Under his leadership the Berlin Wall remained the best-known symbol of Germany’s division while the GDR became known for its tightly controlled state system and extensive security services.
The letter is signed by Major Manfred Schulz of the National People’s Army and member of the State Council office.
The porcelain plate has a diameter of 30 cm.
The plate remains in used condition with light handling wear and a few minor surface scratches.
The accompanying letter shows folds, light discolouration and storage wear.
The illustrated book ‘Erich Honecker Aus Meinem Leben’ is also included in the set.

Origineel DDR NVA porseleinen wandbord van de Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) van de Duitse Democratische Republiek, afkomstig van Erich Honecker

Het bord toont de tekst ‘Nationale Volksarmee Aufklärungstruppenteil Rudolstadt’ met het embleem van de DDR, militaire symboliek en een parachute.
Bij het bord hoort een begeleidende kopiebrief van de Dienststelle des Staatsrates der DDR, gedateerd 11 november 1989, gericht aan Oberst Johan V. van Leeuwen van de Nederlandse ambassade in Oost-Berlijn.
In de brief staat vermeld dat het wandbord namens voormalig Staatsraadvoorzitter Erich Honecker als persoonlijk geschenk wordt aangeboden vanuit zijn kantoor aan de Marx-Engels-Platz in Berlijn.
Erich Honecker was van 1971 tot 1989 leider van de Duitse Democratische Republiek en was gedurende deze periode de belangrijkste politieke figuur binnen de Socialistische Eenheidspartij.
Onder zijn leiding bleef de Berlijnse Muur het bekendste symbool van de deling van Duitsland en stond de DDR bekend om haar streng gecontroleerde staatsapparaat en de omvangrijke veiligheidsdiensten.
De brief is ondertekend door Manfred Schulz, majoor van de NVA en medewerker van de Staatsraad van de DDR.
Het porseleinen bord heeft een diameter van 30 cm.
Het bord verkeert in gebruikte conditie met lichte gebruikssporen en enkele kleine oppervlakkige krasjes.
De begeleidende brief vertoont vouwen, lichte verkleuringen en gebruikssporen passend bij bewaring.
Het afgebeelde boek ‘Erich Honecker Aus Meinem Leben’ behoort eveneens tot de set.
