Original WWII German cap tally ship M.S. Wilhelm Gustloff

This German cap tally from the ship M.S. Wilhelm Gustloff is an authentic piece of maritime history, originally worn on sailors’ caps by crew members.
The black band with gold-colored lettering and red-white flag motifs clearly displays the ship’s name and shows the characteristic woven and stitched details typical of wartime production.

The Wilhelm Gustloff was launched in 1937 as a Kraft durch Freude passenger ship, later repurposed as a training vessel for the Kriegsmarine and eventually used for the evacuation of refugees and wounded soldiers during Operation Hannibal.
On 30 January 1945, the ship was torpedoed in the Baltic Sea by the Soviet submarine S-13, resulting in the largest maritime disaster in history, with thousands of lives lost.

Dit Duitse mutslint van het schip M.S. Wilhelm Gustloff is een authentiek stuk maritieme geschiedenis, zoals gedragen op matrozenpetten van bemanningsleden. Het zwarte lint met goudkleurige tekst en rood-witte vlagmotieven toont duidelijk de scheepsnaam en vertoont de typische weef- en stikdetails die kenmerkend zijn voor oorlogstijdse productie. De Wilhelm Gustloff werd in 1937 te water gelaten als Kraft-durch-Freude-passagiersschip, later ingezet als opleidingsschip voor de Kriegsmarine en uiteindelijk voor de evacuatie van vluchtelingen en gewonde soldaten tijdens Operation Hannibal. Op 30 januari 1945 werd het schip in de Oostzee getorpedeerd door de Sovjet-onderzeeër S-13, wat resulteerde in de grootste scheepsramp uit de maritieme geschiedenis, met duizenden slachtoffers.
