Original WWII Dutch SS book ‘Winter Zonnewende 1943-1944’

This Dutch SS publication Winter Zonnewende 1943–1944 is a remarkable and historically significant propaganda book from the occupation period.
The richly illustrated volume, published by “Storm” in Amsterdam, contains a mix of winter and folkloric imagery, musical scores, illustrations, and texts that are thoroughly infused with National Socialist symbolism and ideological messages.

Inside, the book presents a wide range of material: traditional songs and poems, photographic work, as well as explicit propaganda texts, including messages aimed at families, soldiers, and various groups within the occupation structure. Several pages feature clearly recognizable National Socialist iconography and references, making the book a representative example of the cultural propaganda circulated in the Netherlands during the wartime years.

This particular copy once belonged to the Dutch woman Ata Hilderman from Amsterdam.

Deze Nederlandse SS uitgave Winter Zonnewende 1943–1944 is een bijzonder en historisch propagandaboek uit de bezettingstijd.
Het rijk geïllustreerde werk, uitgegeven door “Storm” in Amsterdam, bevat een mix van winterse en folkloristische beeldplaten, muziekstukken, illustraties en teksten die volledig zijn doordrenkt met nationaalsocialistische symboliek en ideologische boodschappen. Binnenin treffen we uiteenlopende bijdragen: traditionele liederen en gedichten, fotografisch werk, maar ook expliciete propagandateksten, waaronder boodschappen gericht aan gezinnen, soldaten en bewegingen binnen de bezettingsstructuur. Enkele pagina’s bevatten duidelijk herkenbare nationaalsocialistische beeldtaal en verwijzingen, waarmee het boek een representatief voorbeeld vormt van culturele propaganda die tijdens de oorlogsjaren werd verspreid.
Dit boek behoorde tot de Nederlandse vrouw Ata Hilderman uit Amsterdam.
