Original WWII Dutch NSNAP armband

This Dutch cloth armband is made of orange cotton and belonged to the National Socialist Dutch Workers’ Party (NSNAP), a Dutch fascist movement from the 1930s that closely mirrored the symbolism of Hitler’s NSDAP but sought its own Dutch interpretation.
The object consists of a rectangular band worn around the arm, with the orange base color referring to the Dutch context.
In the center is a white circle containing a blue swastika, tilted as was customary in National Socialist imagery.
The choice of blue instead of black, combined with the orange background, distinguishes this example from the German counterpart.
The armband is made of coarse woven cotton or linen, with the fiber structure clearly visible; the seams are carefully finished, and on the reverse side are buttonholes that allowed it to be securely fastened to clothing.
The movement had very little support and soon splintered into different factions.
The party was definitively dissolved in 1941, when the German occupiers decided that there could only be one National Socialist party in the Netherlands, the NSB of Anton Mussert.

Originele WWII Nederlandse NSNAP armband 

Deze Nederlandse stoffen armband is vervaardigd uit oranje katoen en behoort tot de Nationaal-Socialistische Nederlandsche Arbeiderspartij (NSNAP), een Nederlandse fascistische groepering uit de jaren dertig die sterk leunde op de symboliek van Hitlers NSDAP maar een eigen Nederlandse invulling zocht.
Het object bestaat uit een rechthoekige band die om de arm gedragen werd, waarbij de oranje basiskleur verwijst naar de Nederlandse context.
In het midden bevindt zich een witte cirkel met daarin een blauw hakenkruis, schuin gedraaid zoals in de nationaalsocialistische beeldtaal gebruikelijk was.
De keuze voor blauw in plaats van zwart en de oranje achtergrond onderscheiden dit exemplaar van de Duitse tegenhanger.
De armband is vervaardigd uit grof geweven katoen of linnen, waarbij de structuur van de vezels duidelijk zichtbaar is; de naden zijn zorgvuldig afgewerkt en aan de achterzijde bevinden zich knoopsgaten waarmee het stuk stevig op kleding bevestigd kon worden.
De beweging had maar weinig aanhang en viel al snel uiteen in verschillende splinters.
Definitief hield de partij in 1941 op te bestaan, toen de Duitse bezetter besloot dat er in Nederland maar één nationaalsocialistische partij mocht zijn, de NSB van Anton Mussert.
Let op: Op de foto lijkt het de kleur rood, maar is daadwerkelijk oranje.
